Tracklements, an award-winning condiment maker based near Malmesbury, relies on rooftop solar panels to support its sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
After nearly a decade since installation, the panels had accumulated significant dirt and lichen, threatening their performance. Ecovision was engaged to restore the system to peak efficiency through professional panel cleaning.
The challenge
The 150kW solar array, covering over 10,000 sq ft, was mounted on an industrial rooftop at height. While access was manageable, planning was essential to ensure unobstructed cleaning and secure water and power availability. The biggest challenge was the lichen buildup—common in older installations—which can be difficult to remove and significantly impair energy generation.
Our solution
Ecovision performed a detailed site survey to assess access, utilities, and logistics. On the scheduled day, a two-person specialist team used the SolarCleano robotic cleaner, a de-ionised water system, and a fully equipped service van. Multiple passes were performed where necessary to effectively remove lichen while minimising disruption to Tracklements’ daily operations.
Results
- Improved Efficiency: The cleaned panels are expected to generate up to 30% more electricity, according to industry estimates for heavily soiled systems.
- Lower Energy Bills: Increased generation reduces the need to draw from the grid, cutting operational costs.
- Enhanced Sustainability: Improved solar output supports Tracklements' carbon reduction goals by increasing the share of clean energy in its operations.
This project demonstrates how targeted maintenance, even on older systems, can deliver substantial performance and environmental benefits. Ecovision’s expertise, careful planning, and innovative equipment ensured a safe, efficient, and effective clean, helping Tracklements maximise their renewable energy investment.
