Checking your system is working
Your property includes a digital solar meter that shows how much electricity your panels are generating.
- A flashing red LED indicates generation. The faster it flashes, the more electricity it produces.
- At night, the light will remain solid red because no electricity is being generated.
Key things to know
- Solar PV works best during daylight hours. Using appliances during this time helps you make the most of your solar energy.
- Panels do not need direct sunlight and will still generate electricity on cloudy days.
- While general UK rainfall helps clear loose dust, professional cleaning is essential to remove baked-on bird droppings, lichen, and atmospheric grime that rain cannot wash away, preserving your output.
- Avoid running several high-energy appliances at the same time.
- Your home will only use grid electricity when your solar production is not enough to meet demand.

Energy saving tips
In the Kitchen
- Only boil the amount of water you need.
- Cover pots and pans to speed up cooking.
- Match the pan size to the hob.
- Use steamers to cook several foods at once.
- Microwaves and air fryers can be more efficient for small meals.
- Avoid placing hot food directly into the fridge or freezer.
- Keep fridge doors closed and defrost freezers regularly.
Washing Clothes, Heating and Hot Water
- Wash at 30°C for most loads.
- Run full loads in washing machines and dishwashers.
- Dry clothes outdoors or on an indoor airer where possible.
- Clean tumble dryer lint filters after every use.
- Reducing your thermostat by one degree could save around £50 a year.
- Set immersion heaters or hot water tanks to 60°C.
Lighting & Appliances
- Switch off lights when leaving a room.
- Replace older bulbs with energy-saving alternatives.
- Choose A-rated appliances where possible.
- Switch off devices fully instead of leaving them on standby.
Safety and maintenance
If electrical work is being carried out in your home and the solar system needs to be isolated, please let us know beforehand. This prevents false fault alerts on our monitoring system.
We monitor your system remotely every day. If an issue arises, we will contact you, so please ensure your contact details are kept up to date.
If you ever need to turn the system off, do not attempt to do this yourself.

Getting the most from your solar panels
Use appliances during daylight hours when your system is generating electricity. Many modern appliances include timers, and plug-in timers are widely available.
Slow cookers, washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers can all be scheduled to run during the day to help you make the most of your solar energy.
Your system is fully automatic and does not require manual switching.
Why your solar PV system benefits you
- Lower electricity bills because your home uses solar energy first.
- Reduced reliance on grid electricity, which helps protect you from rising energy prices.
- Automatic operation with no settings to manage.
- Clean, renewable energy that reduces your carbon footprint.
- Remote monitoring to quickly identify performance issues.
- Very low maintenance because rainfall keeps panels clear in most conditions, and the system is designed for long-term performance.
